This desk lamp from Bestek not only gives you 4 different color temperatures and brightness levels, but the lamp can also be detached and used as a flashlight.
Design
This desk lamp features a long arm that pivots left and right, bends forward and back and the top lamp can also be tilted so you can the light exactly where you need it to go. Â The strong aluminum construction feels sturdy and the base is heavy so you don’t need to worry about accidental tip overs. However, the base is also somewhat large and requires a substantial footprint on your desk.
Light Quality
The LEDs are covered by a diffuser that produces a nice, pleasing glow that is not hard on the eyes like “naked” LEDs bulbs would be. Â It also eliminates virtually all “LED flicker” some individuals may notice from other LED lights.
There are four lighting temperatures available:
- Reading: A nice balance between cool white and warm white.
- Study: A cool white light for focusing.
- Relaxing: A warm white, similar to an incandescent bulb.
- Sleep: An even warmer light conducive for bedtime.
Each of the four settings can be adjusted between four brightness levels.
Features
This desk lamp packs a surprising number of features for a desk. Â First, the lamp features 2 “smart” USB charging ports that can supply up to 2.4 amps, making them ideal for charging both smartphones and tablets. Â I tested the port with my iPad and did indeed receive a 2 amp charge from the lamp’s side USB port.
Second, there is a built-in 60 minute timer that can be used for automatically turning the light off at bedtime, for example. Â Unfortunately, this setting cannot be adjusted to support something other than 1 hour.
Probably the more impressive feature is the ability to remove the lamp itself from the fixture. Â This allows you to carry it around and use it as a flash light. Â When detached, the light can be set between 3 different brightness levels. Â This makes it handy for power failures or even for taking the dog for a walk at night. Â The built-in 1600mAh battery can last up to 1.5 hours at full brightness.
