The solid aluminum finish on the Vtin Royaler gives the speaker the look of a shelf speaker, and it features sound quality to match.

PROs

  • Sound quality: The sound quality on this speaker really surprised me. The speaker is relatively small, but it delivers big sound with prominent bass.  The speaker gets loud enough to fill a large room, such as your living room, and the passive subwoofer delivers deep bass without being overwhelming or causing a rattle.  Music is clear and mids and highs are discernible.
  • Aluminum finish: The alloy housing on the speaker gives it some weight and it feels like a solid brick.  The good looks make this speaker suitable on a shelf or cabinet.
  • Low volume announcements: One of the features I really like on this speaker is that the “power on” and “pairing” announcements are relatively quiet.  That makes it ideal for an office environment if you don’t want your co-workers to jump out of their skins every time you turn on your speaker.
  • Easy controls: With just four buttons across the top, it’s easy to turn the speaker on and off, skip and rewind songs, and adjust the volume.
  • Long-lasting battery: The built-in 5000mAh battery can provide up to 8 hours of playback time.
  • Aux input: No Bluetooth, no problem.  Use the included audio cable to directly connect it to your phone, tablet, or old school MP3 player.

CONs

  • Identity crisis: I really like this speaker and would like to give it a permanent space on my shelf.  Yet, it is built for portability, and the manufacturer recommends NOT charging the speaker and using it at the same time (this is common for most devices with a rechargeable battery, as you don’t want to stress the battery by charging and discharging it at the same time).  If you don’t care about the battery, I suppose you could leave it plugged in all the time, but I would like to see an AC-only version of this speaker.

The VTin Royaler definitely lives up to its name as its royal appearance and sound quality will make a nice addition to your home.  While the unit is portable, the weight and nice finish on this speaker makes me weary of carrying it with me in fear of scratching it up.  However, music playback definitely does not disappoint and the convenience of Bluetooth makes it easy to play what you want, when you want it.
