Spigen is known for their quality mobile phone accessories, and every time a new iPhone comes out, Spigen seems to be on top of the new models with cases and screen protectors available on launch day.
One of those cases I’m checking out is the Spigen Rugged Armor Case with MagFit (really, a trademark-friendly version of “MagSafe”) for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
It pairs nicely with the Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector for the iPhone 14 Pro Max (which is super easy to apply, by the way).
Design of the Spigen Rugged Armor Case
The Spigen Rugged Armor case provides a sufficient lip for both the display and a tempered glass screen protector. The lip around the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera bump, which is even larger than last year’s iPhone.
The four corners of the iPhone feature extra padding which is visible from the outside by a bit off a bump, and also visible from the inside with the bright yellow padding.
The rest of the case is fairly thin TPU material. The back is not a solid plate like some other cases like Otterbox, which makes the case as a whole a little “floppy” and easy to fold. Therefore, this may not protect from twists and bending as much as other heavier cases.
On the flip side, the thinness of the Spigen Rugged Armor may be what some people want as it keeps the case lightweight and adds minimal bulk to the already bulky iPhone 14 Pro Max.
MagSafe Performance
The “MagFit” ring in this case is effective and my phone stays in place find on my vertical stand in my home office. I have noticed it is a little easier to pull off of my stand compared to Apple’s “official” MagSafe, but not so much easier that it concerns me that my phone is going to fall off the stand at the slightest bump. Both the official MagSafe Wallet and MagSafe Power Bank seem to stay in place fine.
One point to remember is that the silicone cases are “stickier” compared to the smooth, somewhat slippy back of this Spigen Rugged Armor case, which may affect ones perception of how strong the MagSafe magnets are in this case.
Our Verdict
The Spigen Rugged Armor MagFit Case for iPhone 14 Pro Max provides sufficient protection for both the screen (and an additional tempered glass protector) and the iPhone 14 Pro Max's larger camera system. The case is somewhat thin and bendy, so it might not be as protective as an Otterbox, but provides reinforced corner protection without adding a lot of bulk
PROs
- Lightweight
- Great screen and camera protection
- Works with screen protectors
CONs
- Due to the thinness, it might not protect against bends and twists
- MagSafe might be just slightly weaker on this case compared to official Apple cases
