Like the SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro earbuds that I recently reviewed, the SoundPEATS POP Clip earbuds hang on the outside of your ear without covering your ear canal completely. Although, these are on the borderline of being open air earbuds because they sit almost on top of your ear canal. Still, they still allow you to hear what is going on around you.
Now the design is also a little different as the part that goes near your ear canal has a distinctive ball design, making it a little easier to identify how to put them on. The earbuds are very flexible, so they are easy to place on your ear. They are also very lightweight at just 4.73 grams, and at times, I forget that I’m wearing them.
SoundPEATS POP Clip Sound Performance
The sound performance on these POP Clip earbuds is very good and the bass is decent for open air earbuds, figuring that they don’t go into your ear canal. I think the bass is a little bit better on the SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro, but the bass on these earbuds is still better than the soundcore C30i earbuds that I reviewed last year. Mid and high performance is also very good, and the design of the earbuds allow outside sounds so they can be used for walking or running outside as you can still hear the traffic around you. However, the way the earbuds sit on your ear greatly impacts the sound quality, so you may need to adjust (and re-adjust if you make sudden head movements) the earbuds to find the “sweet spot” for it to point directly at your ear canal.
Like the PearlClip Pro earbuds, it doesn’t matter which side you put the earbuds back in the charging case. If you accidentally mix up the left and right earbuds and put them in the wrong position in the charging case, they’ll automatically update and the left earbud will become the right earbud and vice versa. The ball design also makes it easier to identify how the earbuds should fit into the charging case. The LED on the front will blink if you did it right and the earbud is receiving a charge.
The earbuds also feature multipoint pairing, so they can be paired to your phone and your laptop at the same time.
SoundPEATS also addressed my biggest complaint about the previous PearlClip Pro earbuds! The touch controls have been replaced by a physical button, making it easier to control the volume and playback of your music. It’s easier to tell when you’ve pressed the button compared to trying to find the sweet spot when tapping the touch controls on the PearlClip Pro earbuds.
Microphone Performance
The microphone for phone calls also works very well at filtering out background noise. I tested the earbuds with a white noise machine and they effectively removed the white noise from the background. Below are some test recordings.
POP Clip Battery Life
Each earbud can last up to 8 hours on a single charge, and when you factor in the charging case, you can get up to 30 hours of playback time (this has been updated since my video review was produced). Plus, a quick 10-minute charge can give you up to 2 hours of playtime.
SoundPEATS POP Clip vs soundcore C30i vs Bose Ultra Open
I’ve found that the SoundPEATS POP Clip earbuds are a little more flexible than the SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro, but the POP Clip might have slightly less bass. Some people might not even notice the difference. The POP Clip earbuds have a physical button while the PearlClip Pro relies on touch controls.
I found that the sound quality on the SoundPEATS POP Clip is better then the soundcore C30i with improved bass performance.
The SoundPEATS POP Clip earbuds are a cheaper alternative to the Bose Ultra Open with only somewhat reduced sound quality, but I don’t think many people will mind considering the cost savings.
