When going outside this summer, don’t leave the tunes behind.  The MIFA F10 Bluetooth speaker has a durable design and surprisingly good sound quality.

Sound Quality

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting very good sound quality as I’ve reviewed similar-looking speakers that were very tinny.  However, the MIFA F10 surprised me.  It’s just one 3 watt driver, but it has a surprisingly clear sound with a good bass response.  I can even feel the table vibrate when I set it on its back.

The speaker gets fairly loud: enough for a small dinner party or a few friends out on a deck.  However, it would underpowered for a large crowd outside or in a gymnasium.

Bass Performance

As noted earlier, the bass on this speaker is very good especially when set on its back on a table or other hard surface.  The bass can be a little overpowering at times, especially at high volumes, and it tends to drown out the mids.  However, at normal listening volumes, the speaker performs very well.  When the speaker is upright and not reverberating off of a table, bass is not as pronounced, but it’s still there and makes for very good overall sound quality.

Features

One of the features I really like about this speaker is that it can play MP3 files from a Micro SD card, which is not included with the product but they are readily available on Amazon.  This means you can play music directly on the speaker without needing to pair it to a phone (this also means you won’t hear a tone on your speaker every time someone texts you).  Just insert a Micro SD card and the speaker will automatically play the files randomly without using your phone’s data.  You can even plug the speaker into your computer, press the power key and the speaker will mount your Micro SD card as an external drive on your computer.

If you get a call, you can also use the speaker to answer it by pressing the power button.  The speaker has a built-in mic and will act as a speakerphone.

The speaker also features protections against the elements with a IP56 dust-proof and water-resistant rating. So you can take it pool-side without worry.  Or use the included carabiner clip to attach it to your backpack while hiking.

Oddly, this is one of the few Bluetooth speakers I reviewed that does not have an Aux input.

Bluetooth Range

This speaker uses Bluetooth version 4.0 which provides better range and less battery drain then earlier Bluetooth specifications.  Given the smaller size of this speaker, range is a little more limited at about 20-30 feet.  I was able to carry it to another room and even another floor in my house and while it would occasionally break up while I was carrying it, it performed very well once I set it down.

Battery Life

With a built-in 1200mAh battery, this speaker can last up to 10 hours.  It will likely get you through the day, but if you’re taking it for a weekend camping trip or multi-day hike, you’ll probably want to bring an external battery with you, too.

Very Good

The MIFA F10 Bluetooth speaker sets itself apart from similar models with very good sound quality and decent bass for its size. The ability to play music directly from a Micro SD card is a nice feature as it doesn't need to tie up your phone in order to play music. The water resistant design means you don't need to baby this speaker: it's a great companion for hiking or taking by the pool.
