Did you know you can simply plug in your Apple EarPods or other wired earbuds into your Nintendo Switch to use them for Voice Chat in FortNite on the Nintendo Switch? This works great when you’re playing in handheld mode, but how do you use them when your Switch is docked and you’re playing on the TV?
Unless you want to sit within 1 foot of the TV, you’ll need an audio extension cord for your headphones. Unfortunately, most extension cords do not support the microphone on the Apple EarPods.
You’ll want what’s called a 4-pole audio extension cable. A 4-pole extension cable supports the left and right stereo channels as well as the microphone. Most extension cables are only 3-pole and do not support the microphone.
This cable from KabelDirekt has been working very nicely for me. I simply plug it into the Switch while it is docked and then plug my Apple EarPods into the other end.
You’re probably wondering how you can quickly adjust the volume? Unfortunately, the Switch won’t recognize the button presses on the Apple EarPods’ remote control. However, simply hold the Home button on your controller for 1 second and the “Quick Menu” will pop up on your screen. Here, you can quickly change the volume.
Microphone not working when you start? If the FortNite app has been sleeping in the background, you may need to unplug and re-plug the extension cable on the Switch so it recognize your headphones.
That’s it! A simple extension cable allows you to use your Apple EarPods for Voice Chat in FortNite without needing to buy an expensive gaming headset.
