Anker has updated their line of Qi chargers with this new charging stand that holds your phone at a comfortable viewing angle.

Design

The Anker PowerPort Wireless 5 allows you to charge your iPhone two different ways: either standing up, or on its side. This can come in handy if you’re watching a video as it keeps the phone propped up and charges it at the same time. Also, what I like about this is that since I can have my phone facing me at my desk, all I need to do is tap the screen and Face ID quickly unlocks my phone.

There is a blue LED on the front that comes to let you know when it is charging, and blinks to let you know if there is a problem that is preventing charging. I found this to be the case if I placed an unsupported phone on the charger, so it’s good to know that Anker has some safety checks in place.

Performance

This is a 5-watt charger, so even when Apple releases a software update to enable 7.5 watt charging, this stand won’t work any faster. However, Anker claims that it delivers a more efficient 5-watt charge — even through cases — than many other wireless Qi chargers.

Testing out the PowerPort Wireless 5, I did find that it seemed to charge my iPhone X just as fast compared to using a cable, even with this third-party case on my phone.

Features

It’s important to note that this charger does not come with an AC adapter. Anker recommends using a 5V 2A charging brick with this stand, such as an iPad charger or one of Anker’s wall chargers. The Anker stand does come with a Micro USB cable that you can plug your charger into the back of the stand.

And this stand should work with Android phones as well. Even my work BlackBerry charges on this stand.
