Design
The Anker MagGo 3-in-1 charger is built to be minimal and is ideal for travel or for anyone that likes a clean desk or nightstand. The charger folds into a small brick about the size of two decks of cards. The main wireless Qi charger is located on the front. It’s magnetic and supports Apple’s MagSafe which is found in the iPhone 12 and newer. The front charger folds forward to hold your phone at a comfortable viewing angle, and behind it you’ll find a second, but smaller, wireless Qi charging pad suitable for your AirPods. And finally, on the bottom, is the Apple Watch charger that swings up and props up your watch behind the main charger.
A wall adapter is included with the charging station, and a well thought out right-angle 5-foot USB-C cable is included to discreetly attach to the side and helps support the minimal aesthetic of this unit. It weighs only 6.9 ounces. Anker also includes a 40-watt wall charger in the box (something that seems to be becoming more and more rare).
Performance
The Anker MagGo 3-in-1 charging stations supports fast wireless charging for both the main wireless pad and the Apple Watch charger. The main wireless charging pad supports up to 15 watts of fast charging per the Qi2 certification. The Apple Watch charging pad is MFW certified and also fast charges for supported models up to about 50% in just 30 minutes. When testing the unit with my USB-C power meter, I found it used about 20 watts of power charging all 3 of my devices, each starting with about a 50% charge. It likely would have used more power if they were closer to 0%, but they all seemed to charge quickly, and I didn’t notice that charging was any slower compared to using a wired connection.
Anker’s specs show an AI-powered algorithm is included and supported by a 32-bit processor. Seems like overkill for a charger, but I appreciate the safety and efficiencies this helps to support. The charging station gets warm when all 3 charging options are in use at the same time, but it does not become overly hot. I appreciate that Anker has made some effective considerations for cooling as evident by the vents located on the back and bottom of the unit. It’s part of the reason that Anker has become a leader in charging technology.
It’s important to note that this unit is not a power bank, although you could use it with a separate power bank if it has a 40-watt Power Delivery USB-C output.
The only downside I noted is that the Apple Watch charger does not swing upwards enough to trigger nightstand mode on the Apple Watch, which might be a moot point as you wouldn’t really be able to see it since it is located behind the iPhone. Instead, you could use the new Standby feature in iOS 17 to turn your iPhone into a bedside clock.
