Did you just get an invite to a Rayban and Oakley sale on your phone’s calendar? Don’t respond to it and follow these steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

First, do not accept or decline the invite.  Either option will send an email back to the spammer, showing that your address is legitmate.  Here’s how to stop all future spam invites from automatically going on your calendar.

  1. Go to icloud.com on your computer (preferable a desktop or laptop) and login to your iCloud account.
  2. Click the “Calendar” app
  3. Click the gear icon (“Settings”) in the lower-left corner of the page.
  4. Select “Preference” from the popup menu
  5. Select the “Advanced” tab
  6. Under the “Invitations” section, select the “Email to” option.  This will instead send the invitation to your email address instead of automatically placing it on your calendar.

Now, let’s delete the offending calendar event without notifying the spammer:

  1. In the Calendars app, tap the “Calendars” button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap “Edit”.
  3. Tap “Add Calendar”.
  4. Name it “Spam” and tap Done.
  5. Find and tap the spam invitation in your calendar.
  6. Tap “Calendar”, it’s above “Invitation from.”
  7. Tap “Spam”.
  8. Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 if you have multiple invitations.
  9. Tap “Calendars” at the bottom of the screen.
  10. Tap the “I” icon next to the Spam calendar.
  11. Tap “Delete Calendar” at the bottom of this screen.
  12. Tap “Delete Calendar” to confirm.

So why did this happen?  A spammer appears to be going through the alphabet and guessing email addresses to send the calendar invites.  iCloud tries to make your life easier by automatically placing calendar invites on your calendar, but by changing the setting above, all future invites will go to your email instead of your calendar.

  1. So there’s no way to remove this after the fact without an email going to the spammer? That sucks. I just need to have this thing there for the next week…

  2. Thank you for this tip!
